 castle loma castle

Casa Loma was owned by Sir Henry Mill Pellatt, a Toronto financier, industrialist and military man. Much of his fortune was made through investments in hydro electricity and railway industries. Sir Henry hired noted architect E.J. Lennox to build him and his wife a medieval castle on a brow overlooking Real Estate in Toronto.

It took over 300 mean and 3 years beginning in 1911 to complete this Estate on 5 acres of Prime Toronto Real Estate at a cost of $3,500,000.  For it's time, it was the largest private Residence in North American.  After 10 years of living in his Castle, financial loss forced Sir Pellatt out of his house.

Today, the mansion is owned by the City of Toronto and run by The Kiwanis Club of Casa Loma, which uses its share of the proceeds for charitable projects.  "Canada's Castle" and its gardens and greenhouses are open to visitors who come to this Castle from across the World.   Casa Loma has also served as the set for several Hollywood movies, including Chicago and X-Men.

View from Casa Loma

The beautiful silhouette of Casa Loma provides a romantic backdrop to this posh Toronto Neighbourhood.  The Residential Real Estate Area of Casa Loma is surrounded by St. Clair Avenue West on the North, Bathurst Street on the West, Spadina Road on the East and Dupont Street on the South. It is also surrounded by Ravines and Parkland and feels more like a little enclave in a forest rather than in the City of Toronto.

Large Tudor, Edwardian, Georgian and English Cottage style Detached homes & houses were built between 1905 - 1940.  Some of these homes, have a spectacular view of Toronto's Skyline and can even see Lake Ontario!
