Carbon Monoxide Alarms in all areas of your Homes in Forest Hill, Don Mills, Bridal Path, Rosedale, Lawrence Park, Chaplin Estates is just smart!

Last year,  I, Veronica Key, Broker Forest Hill Real Estate, wanted to have my Furnace serviced and checked in my Toronto home so it would be ready for the Winter months ahead. 

I called a Licenced Gas Technician who asked me if I was feeling OK or having any headaches.  Why was he asking me this?   He also asked when I bought my Carbon Monoxide Alarm/Detector.  I told him my CO Alarm was 10 years ago and now that I think about it, yes I've been feeling very tired (unlike me) and have had a continuous headache for about 2 weeks now (again, unlike me). 

He asked me this because he saw traces of Carbon on the outside of my Furnace (black sout) in Don Mills and pointed to a few areas that perhaps may be leaking out Carbon Monoxide.  It would definately be in very small doses because my little chihuahua Jasmine wouldn't be around (like the canary in the mines) if it was serious.  Just in case you don't know, it's an invisible gas that causes headaches and makes you tired.  You can not smell it or see it, and that's why the CO Alarms are so valuable to you and your family!

There were a few more issues with my furnace such as age and after the Technician explained to me the cost and over-all effeciency of a newer furance I decided to have it replaced right away. 

If you are thinking of Selling your Home in Forest Hill, Don Mills, Lawrence Park, Chaplin Estates, Rosedale, Bedford Park, or any Luxury Properties in Forest Hill, the it is a good idea to get your Furnace checked, as well as, test your Detectors.

Regarding my 10 year old CO Alarm - it was not working because the life span is only 1 - 3 years!  Who tells you this?? It's not on any package.  Please, if your CO Alarms are more than 3 years old, and you are thinking of selling your home, call Veronica Key, Broker, Forest Hill Real Estate as it may be time to make the investment and buy new ones.

Only Carbon Monoxide Alarms bearing the new Canadian Standards Association ULC/CGA-6.19 standard are recommended by the Carbon Monoxide Awareness Committee. The unit may also have a battery back-up.                        

At least one CO Alarm should be installed in your Forest Hill Toronto houses, homes adjacent to the sleeping area of your home. You may need more than one CO Alarm if sleeping areas are located on different levels. And remember to test the unit every month.

The best way to prevent Carbon Monoxide poisoning is to ensure all appliances are well serviced and maintained.    Have your furnace and chimney serviced regularly.   Don't leave automobiles running in the garage, use barbecues outside only, and operate all gas powered equipment outdoors, in well ventilated areas.                                                                                                                                                                                             CO Alarms are not a substitute for maintenance by a qualified technician, and safe use of this equipment can help prevent a Carbon Monoxide hazard.
